Keeneland Fall Meet - Bet on Fun

By Hannah Rivera, Publisher & Editor of Macaroni KID Lexington October 7, 2025

There’s nothing quite like fall in Kentucky — crisp air, colorful leaves, and the excitement of horse racing season at Keeneland. Every October, families from across the Bluegrass flock to Keeneland Race Course in Lexington to experience one of Kentucky’s most beloved traditions: the Keeneland Fall Meet.

If you’ve never been, fall is the perfect time to introduce your kids to the magic of Thoroughbred racing. With family-friendly activities, beautiful scenery, and plenty of space for little ones to run and explore, Keeneland is more than a racetrack — it’s a Kentucky experience.

What to Expect at the Fall Meet

The Keeneland Fall Meet runs for three weeks in October and features some of the most prestigious races in the country. On race days, families can enjoy the thrill of watching the horses thunder down the stretch, sampling local food vendors, and taking in the festive atmosphere that fills the grounds.

Even if you’re not an avid racing fan, Keeneland is worth a visit for its beautiful grounds, picnic areas, and family-friendly vibe. Arrive early to see the horses in the paddock, where kids can get an up-close look before the race, or stroll through the gift shop for fun Kentucky-themed souvenirs. Or, don't even enter the gates at all and instead opt for a fun day on "The Hill," where families can enjoy a more laid-back, spacious tailgate experience (and still enjoy the races via live screens).
